As part of its endeavour to become number one State in energy efficiency activities, the Government of Andhra Pradesh has just launched Energy-Efficient Endowments Project (EEEP) under which it is planned to conserve 60 lakh units of power and 200 tons of LPG fuel per annum in seven major temples.
As part of the initiative, the government has initially selected the famous temples at Srisailam, Vijayawada (Kanakadurga temple), Srikalahasti, Kanipakam, Dwaraka Tirumala, Simhachalam and Annavaram for taking up energy efficiency measures.
According to an official release, Principal Secretary (Revenue and Endowments) J.S.V. Prasad and Energy Secretary Ajay Jain have recently submitted a report to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Endowments Minister P. Manikyala Rao about the EEEP which is the first-of-its-kind project in the country.
In this regard, Mr. Manikyala Rao is scheduled to hold a detailed review meeting in Vijayawada July 15 to work out modalities for implementation of the project.
The State Energy Conservation Mission has already conducted a detailed study of energy consumption pattern and feasibility for measures like replacing all types of bulbs and fans with LED bulbs and energy-efficient fans, installing solar powered LED street lights and replacing the electrical geysers with solar water heaters.
