Don’t demolish Sitarama Kalyana Mandapam: BJP

March 30, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:02 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

The city unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) urged the Endowments Department to shelve its plan of demolishing the Sitarama Kalyana Mandapam at Satyanarayanapuram .

The issue of Sitarama Kalyana Mandapam hit headlines a few days ago, when Endowments officials wanted to take possession of the facility and did not permit Bhuvaneswari Peetham members from entering the premises. Tension prevailed for a while, with local residents opposing the move.

BJP city president Dr. Uma Maheswara Raju Dasam alleged that officials of Endowments, Revenue and Police Departments were acting at the behest of MLA Bonda Umamaheswara Rao. “Mr. Rao, with his vested interests, is exerting pressure on the endowments officials to take possession of the mandapam, against the residents’ will,” alleged Mr. Raju at a press conference here on Sunday.

“Mr. Rao should mend his ways, failing which the issue will be taken up with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and BJP senior leaders,” Mr. Raju said.
