Communist Party of India (CPI) conclave has elected D. Sankar as the party city secretary. For the first time, the party appointed two assistant secretaries — P. Durga Bhavani and G. Koteswara Rao.
At a press conference here on Wednesday, outgoing city secretary K. Subba Raju said he opted out of the race owing to his ill-health and pressures from family members. “I served as secretary for 12 years; there is a need for new leadership to carry on the mantle,” he said.
The newly-elected secretary and assistant secretaries said their immediate and main objective was to win VMC elections.
The party would focus on people's problems, and launch agitations for comprehensive development of the city.
Corruption and skyrocketing prices of essential commodities, implementation of Budmeru diversion scheme, mosquito menace, sub plan for SC and ST, spiralling price rise were some of the issues before the party, they said.
The conclave elected a 75-member council, 23-member executive. and seven-member secretariat.
The other four members of secretariat are: Palla Surya Rao, T.V. Ramana Murthy, Chalasani Ajay Kumar, and V. Nageswara Rao.
