The CPI (M) Krishna district unit said that it would launch a massive agitation if the State government did not shelve its proposals to hand over hundreds of acres to corporate entities and the affluent.
At a press conference here on Saturday, CPI (M) district secretary R. Raghu said that the government was poised to hand over thousands of acres of fertile lands to the affluent under the garb of construction and development of the Capital city.
The government in the process was coming out with some scheme or the other every day neglecting the laws, including Land Acquisition Act., he said. The government was proposing to develop tourism by acquiring 10,000 acre to north of river Krishna. Major chunk of these lands were fertile and under the possession of the poor and middle class. The government was also planning to de-notify forest lands to hand it over to launch yoga centres. Hundreds of dalits and tribal people were living in upgraded forests, which the government intends to de-notify, he pointed out.
Referring to ports, the CPI (M) leader said that there were government lands to construct the ports. However, the government was acquiring lands of farmers leaving them in lurch.
It was also unacceptable to go for land pooling for Gannavaram airport. The government played many dramas on compensation and finally was mounting pressure on the farmers to agree for the land pooling, he said adding that the CPI (M) would launch agitation to protect the lands of commoners.
