Ten persons were injured, while 20 others had a miraculous escape when a private bus from Bengaluru dashed against a lorry and overturned on the Chennai-Kolkata national highway at Tangutur in Prakasam district on Thursday.

In all, 30 persons were travelling in the sleeper bus to Vijayawada, Singarayakonda Circle Inspector M. Bhima Naik said.

Six of the injured were rushed to a multi-speciality hospital here, Tangutur in-charge Sub-Inspector Ramanaiah said.

The mishap occurred when the bus, in a bid to overtake the lorry, cut the divider and overturned.

The accident came close on the heels of a similar mishap in which the bus from Hyderabad to Chennai was gutted in a fire after it collided with a truck in the district.
