Builders in and around the city launched their new outfit Greater Vijayawada Builders Association here on Saturday.
The founder of newly formed association vowed to provide a platform to builders who were operating on city suburbs. Hitherto, the Vijayawada Builders Association was catering to the needs of builders active in the city limits only.
About 200 builders were operating on suburbs like Hanuman Junction, Gannavaram etc., in an unorganised way, said senior builder Gadde Rajling, who was instrumental in launching the new body.
Vijayawada Guntur Tenali Managalgiri Urban Development Authority (VGTUDA) Vice-Chairman GSRKR Vijay Kumar and Municipal Commissioner G. Ravi Babu launched the association at a function here.
The VMC was contemplating involving the builders in the city in its endeavour to provide housing for the poor. The corporation would award the contract to a builder or consortium of builders, he said.
Mr. Vijay Kumar stressed the need for educating and creating awareness among the builders and new entrants into realty sector about the rules and regulations.
Referring to UDA's projects, the Vice-Chairman said that the Chief Minister was likely to lay foundation for River Front Project. On Oryza County, he said, “if anyone of you have contacts there, convince the farmers. The Oryza County would be first of its kind and the farmers who joined hands with the UDA would reap the harvest.”
The UDA Chief Planning Officer S. Venktaesh, Senior builders A. Nagamalleswara Rao, P. Phanindra Prasad, S. Purnachandra Rao and others were present.
