The perennial problem of flooding of Budameru keeps residents of low lying areas like RR Pet, Ajit Singh Nagar, Kabela, Sitara Junction and others on tenterhooks. Though plans were made in the past to fix the problem, nothing concrete has been done till date.

Acknowledging the issue, Irrigation Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao said the expert committee on Krishna Delta modernisation would exclusively inspect the Budameru and Kondavedu Vagu and suggest measures including design changes and construction of retaining walls to address the flooding problems.

Efforts would be made to ensure minimum loss of property and emphasis would be on constructing retaining walls that could withstand huge flood, said Mr. Rao.

Meanwhile, the Krishna Delta Parirakshana Samithi demanded that the Irrigation Minister disclose the sanctity of the committee. Samithi Convenor Kolanukonda Shivaji wanted Mr. Rao to disclose the terms of reference fixed in the appointment of the committee and the orders through which it was appointed.
