The Special Investigation Team (SIT), constituted by the government, began re-investigation into the sensational Ayesha Meera (19) murder case on Tuesday.

The B. Pharmacy student, a native of Guntur district, was suspected to have been sexually assaulted and brutally murdered by some miscreants in Sri Durga Ladies Hostel at Ibrahimpatnam in December 2007.

The police picked up several suspects, questioned them and zeroed in on Pidatala Satyam Babu.

A local court awarded life imprisonment to him.

The case took a twist a few months ago when the High Court acquitted Satyam Babu and directed the police to book the real culprits.

Following the directions of the High Court, the State government constituted the SIT headed by Ch. Srikanth, DIG, Sri Lakshmi and Hymavathi, Dy. SPs, and Sahera Begum, CI.

Scene reconstructed

The SIT tried to re-construct the scene by visiting her room, the rest room and the varandah where the girl was found murdered

The SIT members discussed the time of the murder, the position of the body, at what time the hostel staff noticed it, blood strains, whether her room was locked, the material objects present at the scene and other issues.

“We received the court orders recently, and we began investigation into the case,” a SIT member said.

The SIT member refused to reveal more details.
