AP Govt. to build 2,500 schools in this fiscal

The Andhra Pradesh Government will be building 2,500 schools in the current financial year, School Education Minister K Pardhasaradhi said today.

Each school building will cost Rs 35 lakh. Land has been already acquired for 500 of these schools, he told reporters here.

In addition to the buildings, toilet facility will be provided by using funds from the Union Rural Development Ministry under its Total Sanitation Scheme, he said.

In the previous fiscal, 1,067 school buildings, costing Rs 313 crore, had been completed, he said, adding 355 model schools will be set up at a cost of Rs 1,070 crore.

Mr. Pardhasaradhi expressed unhappiness over the literacy rate in the State and said it must go up.

He said dropout from schools will be continuously monitored and necessary steps will be taken to reduce the rate.
