It was a mix of emotion, excitement, indescribable feeling and a bit of hesitation in the eyes and minds of the gathering. At one call, friends who parted ways 45 years ago for pursing higher studies and take up careers landed from far flung places such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Bhadrachalam, Chandrapur and Hyderabad to meet their childhood buddies and to recollect those funny moments, naughty but naive behaviour, and often out of ignorance.
Down memory lane
Students of the Vidyodaya School came together for a reunion at ‘Haailand', an amusement park near here, recently for the first time since parting ways in 1967 to pay tributes to the founder of the school late P. Veeraraghaviah, and teachers who taught the batch that included Anasuya, Damayanthi, Ranganayakamma, Jagath Kumari, Rajyalakshmi, Dorothy, Sofia, the caretaker Krishnamurthy and fellow students of whom some had passed away.
The then principal Devaki Devi was present with her sons and was felicitated on the occasion.
The body of students, who are now doctors, engineers, administrators, businessmen and journalists, came from varied places and did not need to be persuaded much to grace the occasion with their presence. The efforts of the ‘initiator group' led by K. Seshagiri, K. Manjari, S. Murali, T. Suresh, to name a few, had been invaluable in bringing them together.
Exciting
The experience was expectedly exciting and they have decided to keep meeting in regular intervals from now on while actively taking up social welfare work such as blood donation and medical check-up camps for free and ‘Green Vijayawada' as part of their meetings.
