Collector, J. Uma Maheswari, disbursed welfare assistance worth Rs. 4.42 lakh to 34 persons during the grievance day meeting here on Monday.
Dr. Uma Maheswari also handed over certificates and licenses to 80 trainees who had undergone training in car driving, two-wheeler repair, domestic wiring and home appliances repair and such other like skill activities on the occasion.
Under the aegis of the Backward Classes Welfare Department four persons got free iron boxes worth Rs. 2,750 each while Valarmathi, widow of Murugesan, who died in police custody was given Rs. One lakh as compensation.

The Collector also handed over Rs. 3,000 each to 25 differently-abled persons for starting small business ventures in their areas.
V. Ramu aged six and afflicted by cerebral palsy was given callipers worth Rs. 2,000.
District Revenue Officer C. Munirathinam, Project Officer, District Rural Development Agency, S. Kavitha, Regional Transport Officer Ramasamy, Project Officer, Mahalir Thittam, Rajalakshmi, and other officials were present on the occasion.
