Vinayaka idols immersion: Traffic diversions in place on Wednesday

About 1,200 police personnel will be on security duty during the Vinayaka Chathurthi rallies to be held in the city on Wednesday.

Surveillance cameras have been installed on procession routes and all processions will be video recorded, Commissioner of Police Shailesh Kumar Yadav said in a press release. Vinayaka idols installed in different parts of the city will be immersed in the Cauvery near Chinthamani.

Meanwhile, five idols installed without permission were asked to be removed by the police. The police said the idols including those installed at Pandamangalam Pudu Street, Minnappan Street, Takkar Bungalow, Weavers Colony, and Aravanur were removed and immersed in water bodies by the organisers peacefully.

The police have announced the following traffic diversions in the city from 2 p.m. on Wednesday in view of the Vinayaka Chathurthi rallies scheduled for the day: Buses entering the city from Thuraiyur, Ariyalur and Perambalur will be diverted at the Samayapuram Tollgate to go via the Chennai Bypass Road, TVS Tollgate, Head Post Office, Mutherayar Statue, MGR Statue, Puthur Four Road Junction, and Woraiyur to reach Chathram Bus Stand. In the return direction, they should go via Karur Bypass Road, KT Theatre Junction, Shastri Road, Anna Nagar Uzhavar Sandhai, TVS Tollgate, and Chennai Bypass Road. All town buses entering the city from Lalgudi, Samayapuram, Manachanallur, and Vathalai will be halted at Mambazhasalai. The buses would operate from the same point in the return direction and go via Amma Mandapam and Gandhi Road.

Town buses to Srirangam from Chathram Bus Stand would go via Mainguard Gate, West Boulevard Road, Thanjavur Road, Palpannai, Chennai Bypass, Kumbakonathan Salai, and Thiruvanaikovil Main Road to reach Srirangam Old Bust Stand. In the return direction, they should go via Gandhi Road, Thiruvanaikovil, Chennai Bypass, TVS Tollgate, Head Post Office, Puthur Four Road Junction, Thillai Nagar and Karur Bypass to reach Chathram Bus Stand.

Town buses operating on the Tiruverambur-Chathram Bus Stand route will be diverted at Ariyamangalam to go via the Chennai Bypass, TVS Tollgate, Head Post Office, Thillai Nagar and Karur Bypass. The buses will be operated on the same route in the return direction. Heavy vehicles from Coimbatore and Karur routes to Thanjavur and Pudukottai will be diverted at Kulithalai Cauvery bridge to go via Musiri, Tollgate, Coleroon new bridge, Cauvery bridge, Chennai Bypass road, Palpannai roundabout to reach Thanjavur, and Pudukottai Highways. Heavy vehicles bound for Karur from Thanjavur, Pudukottai and Madurai would be diverted at TVS Tollgate to go via Chennai Bypass, Samayapuram Tollgate, and Musiri. The traffic diversions will be in force till the end of the processions in the evening.
