The city police on Thursday arrested a district-level office-bearer of Tamil Desiya Periyakkam on the charge of promoting enmity by putting up objectionable posters on the killing of 20 woodcutters of Tamil Nadu in Seshachalam forest in Anhdra Pradesh recently.

The accused, Kavithuvan, the district president of the outfit, was later remanded.

Police said Kavithuvan had pasted a poster in TVS Tollgate area in the city alleging that the rights of Tamils were being usurped by other groups.

As the poster was pasted without permission and it is seen as inciting enmity between people, Kavithuvan was arrested, the sources said.

The Cantonment Police registered a case against him under IPC section 153 –A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony) and section 3 of Tamil Nadu Open Places (Prevention of Disfigurement) Act.
