The State government has allotted ₹12.25 crore for Pudukottai district for augmenting drinking water supply, said C. Vijaya Baskar, Minister for Health.

Speaking while reviewing the water supply programme in the district on Saturday, he said that borewells would be sunk in areas with adequate water source. Steps would also be taken to supply water through tankers.

P. Annamalai, Principal Secretary, Adi Dravidar Welfare and Monitoring Officer for the district, would monitor the execution of the schemes.

S. Ganesh, District Collector, spoke on various steps being taken to ensure uninterrupted supply of drinking water.

C. Ve. Meyyanathan and S. Regupathuy, both MLAs of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, who came to the venue, complained that they were not informed of the review meeting.

They wanted the district administration to inform all MLAs when such review meetings are held, taking into consideration the serious depletion in groundwater table in the district.

Meanwhile, resident of Mettupatti resorted to a road roko on the Alangudi Road demanding supply of drinking water.

They said that the supply remained suspended for the past one week. Police and Revenue officials rushed to the spot and held talks with them following which they dispersed.
