Emphasising the need for strengthening public infrastructure and air and rail connectivity to the city, the Tiruchi District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association, TIDITSSIA, has urged the government to take steps for the introduction of domestic air services from Tiruchi.
Daily domestic services to Bangalore and Coimbatore should be introduced from the city, the association said in a resolution adopted at its annual general body meeting held here recently. The meeting called for strengthening infrastructure for exports and imports at the airport. An integrated service centre should be set up for entrepreneurs to get information on international market conditions and get inputs on export and import opportunities.
In a statement explaining the resolutions adopted at the meeting, T. Raju Rebero, president, and S. Punniyamoorthy, secretary, TIDITSSIA, called for strengthening rail connectivity to the city. Additional coaches should be attached to the Tiruchi-Chennai Rockfort Express and a daily service should be introduced to Bangalore from here. The association reiterated its demand for setting up a trade centre in the city on the lines of the one functioning at Coimbatore. This was essential for the development of the industry and to attract foreign investment.
The Karaikal port should be developed as a state-of-the-art one with all modern facilities and an industrial corridor should be development between Coimbatore and the port via Tiruchi.
The association urged the Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited to accord priority to ancillaries in Tiruchi in placing orders. It called upon the government to strengthen the power transmission infrastructure and ensure quality power supply to small and medium industries. Pending power projects should be given a push to increase power generation. Input tax credit should be given on fuel and spares for running gensets by the MSME units. The Centre and State government should expeditiously release the subsidy given for solar power units put up small and medium industries as well as domestic consumers.
The association also urged the government to revive the SIDCO raw material yard to supply raw materials to small and medium industries.
