Realising the space constraint faced by passengers at the Tiruchi airport’s new international terminal building, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has undertaken the work of modifying the security hold area to accommodate more travellers. Once modified, the security hold area could accommodate approximately 150 passengers more than its present capacity of 200, Airport Director B.C. H. Negi said.

The work to improve the seating capacity is expected to be completed before the end of the month, he said.

The space crunch is acutely felt during morning and night hours when a clutch of overseas flights to Colombo, Singapore, and Kuala Lumpur take off from the airport.

Branded shops would be opened in the security hold area and arrival hall, the director said.
