The Chairman of State Minorities Commission Rev. M. Prakash on Friday reviewed the progress of the schemes being executed in the district for the welfare of people belonging to minority communities.
Speaking on the occasion, Rev. Prakash highlighted the various schemes implemented in the State for the benefit of minorities such as renovation of churches and mosques and darghas, scholarships for students of minority communities to pursue higher education in self-financing colleges, assistance programme for undertaking holy pilgrimages to Haj and Jerusalem and pension for Ulemas.
The commission, he said, has recommended the increase of assistance given to Christians for undertaking holy pilgrimage and also increasing the proportion of the matching grant given to Muslim Women’s Aid Societies.
Collector K. Rajamani said the welfare and assistance schemes meant for minorities were being implemented well in the district.
Earlier, Rev. Prakash distributed welfare assistance to 13 women from minority communities under various schemes.
