The Tiruchi Corporation has advised owners of marriage halls, cinemas and hotels to purchase hand-held anti-mosquito fogging devices so as to keep their premises mosquito-free.
At a special meeting with owners of hotels, marriage halls, cinemas, hospitals and residents welfare associations, Corporation Commissioner V.P.Thandapani urged them to participate in the mosquito breeding source reduction measures taken by the civic body. “You can purchase hand-held fogging devices to rid your premises of mosquitoes. Also ensure that their premises are maintained clean,” he told owners of marriage halls, cinemas and hotels. A demonstration of some of the equipments in the market was also organised on the occasion.
Mr.Thandapani also urged them to ensure that their water containers were kept closed. Mayor A.Jaya said Corporation has already roped in nursing students and neighbourhood committees formed under the Swarna Jayanthi Shahari Rozgar Yojana in carrying out awareness and prevention measures. Twelve teams comprising doctors and supervisors were also engaged in carrying out door-to-door inspection of houses to remove mosquito breeding sources, she said and urged residents to cooperate with the Corporation in reducing source reduction of mosquito breeding.
K.Kulandaisamy, Additional Director of Public Health, said persons with fever should approach government hospitals immediately and avoid taking over-the-counter medicines. Though there was no need to panic, residents should keep their households and their surroundings clean and prevent breeding of mosquitoes. Amudha, Joint Director, Public Health, was also present.
