The Ordnance Factories Institute of Learning (OFIL), Dehradun, has decided to provide training to State government agencies on tapping of solar power.
S.M.M.S. Maricar, Director of the institute, told The Hindu on the sidelines of a workshop at the National Institute of Technology here on Monday that many ordnance factories in the country had installed panels to tap solar power.
Extensive training had been given to the personnel on tapping solar power so as to reduce the electricity consumption in ordnance factories. The results had been encouraging.
The OFIL, which was mainly extending training to the personnel of OFTs, now decided to expand its reach with the approval of the Defence Ministry. Initially, it would provide technical training on tapping non-conventional energy resources to government agencies.
The Uttarakhand government had approached the OFIL for engaging some of its agencies for tapping the natural resources. The State had many sunny days in a year. It had realised the need for making use of solar power. Since Uttarakhand had unique weather condition, the institute would offer customised training, he said.
