Coordinated effort should be taken by government and non-governmental organisations to create awareness among people on sexual assaults against children, Collector K.S. Palanisamy said on Thursday.

The police, social welfare, and education departments besides non-governmental organisations should join hands to create awareness on this issue, Mr. Palanisamy said presiding over the Childline Advisory Committee meeting here.

Child protection measures should percolate to the grass-roots level through the efforts of the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, Child Welfare Committee, Integrated Child Development Scheme, Social Welfare and Social Defence departments.

Children should be made known about the policy on child protection through various awareness modes, Mr. Palanisamy said while directing the School Education Department to issue a circular in this regard. Rights of children, including the right to education and the ways to remain vigilant, should be made known to them.
