Additional surveillance cameras have been installed at the Srirangam Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple to cover more spots within the sprawling temple complex and enhance vigil.

The cameras have been put up ahead of the ensuing Vaikunta Ekadasi festival slated to be held from December 21 to January 11, 2015.

The Hindu Religious Charitable Endowments Department (HR & CE) installed the additional cameras a few days ago.

The cameras have been fixed at Renga Vilas Mandapam, Sri Ramanuja Sannidhi, Kili Mandapam, 1,000-pillar mandapam, entry and exit sides of the ‘Paramapada Vaasal’, and the ‘Thaayar’ sannidhi, temple authorities said.

The temple complex has 16 cameras installed at vantage points to keep a tab on the activities taking place inside.

The additional cameras were installed to cover more places within the temple premises ahead of the Vaikunta Ekadesi festival, the authorities said.

All the cameras have been connected to the control room of the HR & CE office inside the temple from where the movements inside the shrine are monitored.

The cameras will be linked to the police outpost to be set up before the Vaikunta Ekadasi festival within the temple premises to enable the police to keep on eye on the happenings.

Foremost among the 108 Divya Desams, the Srirangam temple has personnel of the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad of the city police deployed at three entrances where doorframe metal detectors have been installed as a security measure.

Police sources said a detailed security plan would be drawn up before ‘Vaikunta Ekadasi’ and on its eve when a large number of devotees were expected to visit the temple.
