Tiruchi city and parts of the district continued to receive moderate showers for the second day on Wednesday, much to the joy of the city residents who had been reeling under the severe summer heat for more than a month now.

The rain helped bring down the day time temperature considerably. The rain also brought much relief to the candidates contesting the Assembly election as they could campaign for longer duration during the day. Cadres of DMDK-People’s Welfare Front were also happy though they had to brave the showers to attend the front’s public meeting at Panchapur in the city.

Devimangalam recorded the maximum rainfall of 78.20 mm during the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 a.m. on Wednesday. The amount of rainfall recorded in other parts of the district during the same period were (in mm): Samaypuram 60; Pullampadi 24.60; Vathalai Anicut and Sirukudi 22 each,Navalur Kuttapattu 20.30, Lalgudi 15.50, Tiruchi Airport 15, Golden Rock 14.20, Tiruchi Junction 11.20, Tiruchi Town 10.20, Thuvakudi 9 and Manapparai 7.40.
