Published - June 28, 2015 12:00 am IST - TIRUCHI:

British postgraduate degrees in Management or Mobile Phone Applications will now be available through the twinning programme announced by London School of Commerce (LSC) with two leading city colleges on Saturday.

The LSC Group of Colleges is collaborating with St. Joseph’s Institute of Management (JIM) to offer a one-year Masters course in Management and with Bishop Heber College for a degree in Mobile Phone Applications. Anglia Ruskin University, based in eastern England, will award the final degree to successful candidates.

As per the concept of ‘twinning’, the first eight months of the course will be completed by students on the Tiruchi campus and the final four months for the MBA will be spent on the parent campus (in London, Kuala Lumpur or Bengaluru).

The M.Sc students will be expected to complete their studies in LSC’s Bengaluru campus of Indian School of Business and Computing after their first two terms in Tiruchi.

The course fee (Rs. 3.9 lakhs for MBA and M.Sc) is inclusive of the final transfer term.

At a press conference to launch the degree programmes here, college officials were hopeful of attracting local and international student intake as the one-year duration of Britain’s Masters courses speeded up higher education, and made it more affordable.

“We focus on students from developing countries, and one of the reasons why the ethos of these two colleges mattered so much to us was that both St. Joseph’s College and Bishop Heber College are working to educate children from less privileged backgrounds,” said Mr. Robert Donison, founder director, LSC Group.

“We can give back more to society by being based here in Tiruchi. We don’t intend to go for any other partnerships in India,” he added.

The coursework is research-based and stringent anti-plagiarism checks are in place.

Course material will be tailored according to local requirements, and in addition to the existing on-campus libraries, students will be given access to reputable online research directories for their studies.

“JIM has a good placement record and we are among the best of 60 management colleges in India.

Those who join the LSC course will get all the advantages of being in St. Joseph’s College,” said Rev. Fr. Joseph Xavier SJ, director, JIM.

“It is a nice coincidence that we are introducing the Masters programme in our golden jubilee year,” said D. Paul Dayabaran, principal, Bishop Heber College.

“I’m sure this will go from strength to strength.”
