Advocates in various districts in the central region on Friday burnt copies of amendments made to statutory rules framed under the Advocates Act empowering individual judges to debar erring lawyers.

In Tiruchi, a group of lawyers burnt the copies of the amendments outside the combined court complex and raised slogans against the amendments.

Similar protests were held at Thanjavur, Papanasam, Kumbakonam, Orathanadu and Pattukottai in Thanjavur district; Ariyalur and Jayamkondam in Ariyalur district besides in Perambalur, Karur and Kulithalai.

In Thanjavur, a group of lawyers took out a procession before burning the copies.
