For the third successive year, K. Jennitha Anto, a differently abled international chess player from Tiruchi, has won the women’s title in the International Physically Disabled Chess Association (IPCA) World Individual Chess Championship.

In the 15th edition of the tournament, which concluded in Slovakia recently, Ms. Anto scored 4.5 points from nine rounds (three wins, three draws, and three losses) to finish first among the woman participants. It was a three-way tie for the top spot in the women’s section with Ms. Anto and two other players finishing with 4.5 points each. However, Ms. Anto with a better Buchholz tiebreak score was adjudged winner. Ms. Anto, who was afflicted with polio at the age of three, is a Woman International Master (WIM) title holder and aims at securing the Grand Master title.

G. Kanickai Irudayaraj, Ms. Anto’s father, thanked the Sports Authority of India for extending financial support for her trip and N.Siva, MP, for recommending her case.
