Member organisations in Tiruchi district on Tuesday responded overwhelmingly to the one-day token strike called by JACTO-GEO (Joint Action Council of Teachers Organisations - Government Employees Organisations), demanding timely implementation of the seventh pay commission recommendations and restoration of the old pension scheme.

Teachers of government-aided and Corporation schools also took part in the strike and the agitation held in all taluk headquarters. Likewise, over 80% of the employees of government departments participated in the strike, District-level Coordinator of JACTO-GEO Kennedy said.

In Tiruchi town, the protest involving over 2,000 government employees and teachers was led by S. Neelagandan, Zonal Coordinator.

The preparatory meeting for the indefinite strike of the members from September 7 onwards will be conducted at R C Higher Secondary School on August 27, Mr. Neelagandan said.
