The bicentenary of the Saint will be celebrated in 2015
Don Bosco Higher Secondary School at Yagappa Nagar in Thanjavur was a hub of activity on Thursday.
Hundreds of people paid homage to the relic of Saint Don Bosco brought from Tiruchi and kept for public viewing at the school's auditorium.
People queued up in large numbers and paid homage as they filed past the relic of the saint kept at the auditorium. Rev.Fr.Rajadevan, principal of the school, said that bicentenary of the Saint Don Bosco is slated for celebration on 2015.
As a prelude to the occasion, the relic is taken to 130 countries that have institutions run by Salesians Society, founded by Don Bosco.
Salesians landed in India, first in Thanjavur, hundred years ago and took up various service activities.
The Don Bosco School in Thanjavur is one of such institutions. A lot of Christians, priests and nuns came in large numbers to pay their homage.
Fr.Rajadevan said that the relic will be kept in the auditorium till Friday afternoon for enabling people to pay homage.
From Thanjavur the relic will be taken to Velankanni and then to Chennai. People and students purchased portraits, photos and books of the Saint exhibited at the venue.
