The Kerala Congress (B)[KC(B)] has said that the estate of late actor Srividya is intact and not a rupee has been misspent.
The party said that its legislator, K.B. Ganesh Kumar, who the actor had named as the executor of her will at the time of her death in 2006, had not betrayed her trust as alleged in the public realm. Claims to the contrary were baseless.
They were aimed at maligning Mr. Ganesh in public. Those who feared the politician’s stringent stance against corruption orchestrated the smear campaign, the party alleged. Mr. Ganesh had in 2006 proposed to the then Culture Minister M. A. Baby to take over Srividya’s estate.
Later, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had ordered the government takeover of the actor’s estate, its district secretary Pachalloor Jayachandran said.
She had bequeathed a house in Thiruvananthapuram, a flat in Chennai, bank deposits, and gold ornaments and jewellery to Mr. Ganesh to start a dance and music academy in her name.
However, the academy never materialised. Moreover, her brother moved the court stating that the payments promised to his daughters and to former servants of Srividya in the will were not made.
Mr. Ganesh was facing a Lok Ayukta inquiry in the matter. The actor had also come under much public criticism on the issue.
