The government is thinking of offering aid to those transgenders who require follow-up treatment, Health Minister K. K. Shylaja, has said.
She was inaugurating a State-level awareness workshop on Transgender Policy and Rights here on Wednesday.
The government is also examining if the sex reassignment surgery facilities can be readied in at least two medical colleges in the State.
Projects would be readied to give transgenders skill training and to employ them. Special lodging facilities would be arranged for them at Ernakulam and the Social Justice Department will recommend to the government to give transgenders special consideration in employment, Ms. Shylaja said.
Equality and justice should be ensured for the transgender community in society, for which more programmes to create social awareness was required. Steps should also be taken to prevent transgender children from dropping out of school, she added.
Social Justice Secretary Mini Antony presided.
