The theme song of the National Folk Festival of Kerala, which will be presented at its inaugural function, will be a blend of traditional folk music with contemporary styles.

The Malayalam folk song ‘Aadiyillallo Anthamillallo’ will be lent a touch of experimentation and be presented by acclaimed folklore singer and Kerala Folklore Academy chairman C.J. Kuttappan and playback singer and music composer Jassie Gift. Adding to the visual spectacle will be around 30 dancers led by Madhu Samudra and Sajeev Samudra.

The festival, organised by the Kerala State Youth Welfare Board, will be held at various venues, including Kanakakkunnu, Nishagandhi auditorium and Manaveeyam Veedhi, from February 15 to 18.

A release quoted Board vice-chairman P. Biju and programme director Karamana Hari as saying that the theme song was in consonance with the festival theme of ‘Universal view of folk art forms’. The 12-minute song will be performed at the formal launch of the festival at Nishagandhi on February 16.

A seminar based on the principal theme will be organised at the Institute of Engineers (India) Hall on February 17.

Moyinkutty Vaidyar Mappilakala Academy chairman T.K. Hamza will inaugurate the seminar.
