Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president V.M. Sudheeran is likely to brief the party high command on the salient features of the his proposed Janapaksha Yatra from Manjeswaram in Kasaragod district to Thiruvananthapuram from November 4 to December 9 during his coming visit to New Delhi.
Mr. Sudheeran is expected to be in Delhi to attend a meeting of All India Congress Committee office-bearers and Pradesh Congress Committee presidents later this week.
The visit will give him an opportunity to hold discussions with the Central leaders, besides finalising the participation of senior leaders, including party president Sonia Gandhi in the concluding rally on December 9.
Mr. Sudheeran has been meticulously planning his Yatra, attending to details of the campaign that would pass through all 140 Assembly constituencies in the State. The revamp of the lower-level party apparatus such as block and mandalam committees was over to a very large extent. The Yatra will also focus on mobilising funds for the KPCC and other party committees on the basis of a sharing formula approved by the KPCC executive.
Even though there are news reports that Mr. Sudheeran might pressure the party leaders to bridle Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, KPCC sources said that Mr. Sudheeran might prefer to highlight his Yatra that seeks to shift the political debate and focus on social and environmental issues as well. Apart from his pet anti-liquor theme, Mr. Sudheeran’s campaign will try to create a constituency for organic farming, pesticide-free farming and plastic-free environment. During the course of his Yatra, he will express solidarity with the numerous localised agitations taking place across the State, mostly led by marginalised sections of society, KPCC sources said.
