The students of Government Lower Primary School at Karichaara in Kaniyapuram paid a visit to freedom fighter K.E. Mammen’s home on the occasion of Easter. The students gathered together and sang patriotic songs like “Varika varika sahajare” and “Vande Mataram” in his honour.

“You have to grow up as responsible citizens of the country,” he told the students. He made them utter a short pledge – “I am not Hindu. I am not Islam. I am not Christian. I am an Indian”. He shared his experiences from the freedom struggle.

Gopika, a fourth standard student, gifted him a picture of Mahatma Gandhi. Nasreen Fathima, a first standard student, gifted him a khadar shawl. He later joined the students in cutting the Easter cake.
