The State Bank of India (SBI) gifted a wheelchair-friendly vehicle for the disabled to Pallium India on the occasion of SBI Day here on Saturday.
Governor P. Sathasivam handed over the key of the vehicle, costing ₹22.50 lakh, to Pallium India founder chairman M.R. Rajagopal. The vehicle is specially designed to transport paraplegic patients from vocational rehabilitation centre to their place of work and other public places. Pallium India is currently taking care of 108 patients, many of them in receipt of job offers.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor described the State Bank of India (SBI) as a model for other banks.
Banks, he said, should give top priority to risk management. Instead of rushing for loan recovery, banks should adopt the method of negotiation and settlement. The SBI was a model in this respect as its handling of loan recovery was very professional, Mr. Sathasivam noted.
Delivering the keynote address, C.R. Sashikumar, Deputy Managing Director, SBI, said the SBI could emerge as the largest bank in the country only because of the support of all stakeholders.
S. Venkataraman, Chief General Manager, SBI, presided over the function. Ashok Kumar Peer, General Manager (Network 1) and J.K. Thakar, General Manager (Network 3) spoke. P Ravikumar, Secretary, SBI welfare circle, proposed the vote of thanks.
