The Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB) will open dengue diagnosis counters in seven government hospitals in the capital district from Monday.
RGCB Registrar K. Asok said in a statement here on Sunday that the counters will start functioning from 8 a.m. on Monday. The Health and Family Welfare Minister K. K. Shylaja will inaugurate the first counter at the General Hospital.
The counters will be a joint initiative of the District Panchayat, Health and Family Welfare Department and the RGCB. The counters will come up at Nedumangand, Neyyattinkara and Peroorkada District Hospitals and Chirayankeezh, Varkala and Vithura taluk hospitals.
The diagnosis will be conducted by a team of experts of the RGCB’s laboratory medicine and molecular diagnostic division. The most modern diagnostic technology will be available at the counters to provide on the spot test results on blood samples. The counters will function in tandem with the out-patient section of these seven hospitals. The tests will be done free of cost for all patients arriving at these counters.
RGCB Director M. Radhakrishna Pillai said the RGCB has facilities to test all contagious diseases currently being reported from various parts of the State. He urged the people in the district to utilise the services being offered by the institution.
