One held for cultivating ganja in Thiruvananthapuram

The accused was found to have been cultivating cannabis in over 50 pots on his terrace.

A 22-year-old was arrested by the Valiyathura police on Friday for allegedly cultivating cannabis at his house.

Anwar of Bala Nagar in Vettucaud was apprehended during a raid that was conducted by a team of the City Narcotics Cell led by Assistant Commissioner of Police R. Dethan on Thursday night. The accused was allegedly found to have been cultivating cannabis in over 50 pots on his terrace. Of these, two plants had matured to be harvested, the police said.

Upon further investigation, it has come to light that the accused is part of a racket which supplies various contrabands including mushrooms, containing psychedelic compounds, in the city. Such items were smuggled into the city from various places in Tamil Nadu such as Kodaikanal and Ooty. The police have launched a manhunt to nab the other members of the gang.
