The city police, on Sunday, arrested Devi, 32, the mother of the two children who had lost their lives in an alleged group suicide bid by their father Rajesh at Nalanchira on May 26.
According to R. Suresh, Circle Inspector, Peroorkada, Devi was arraigned as an accused in the case on charges of abetting the suicide, with Rajesh having named her, along with four others, in a suicide note.
Devi, according to the police, had gone absconding soon after the incident on May 26, in which Rajesh allegedly poisoned himself, his mother, and his three children. Two of the children died, which has now led the police to book Rajesh with multiple charges, including murder, attempt to murder, and attempt to commit suicide.
Devi, police said, was traced to a women’s hostel in Thrissur, from where she was arrested in the early hours of Sunday. Four more persons, including Sanju V. Das, Devi’s paramour, her colleagues Niranjan, Ajayghosh, and Vijayalakshmi (Ajayghosh’s wife), are yet to be arrested. All four, the police said, were charged with abetment of suicide, since their names were mentioned in the suicide note by Rajesh, who is currently in judicial custody.
