Sakhi centre offers counselling, medical care, safe lodging for assault victims

Assaults against women in the State are condemnable, Minister for Health and Social Justice K.K. Shylaja has said. She was inaugurating the first Sakhi one-stop crisis management centre here in the city.

Similar centres will be opened in Thrissur, Kannur, and Wayanad districts in the next three months.

Services

These centres will provide counselling, medical care, police assistance as well as safe lodging for women who are victims of assault or violence.

A managing committee chaired by the respective District Collectors will be in charge of the centres.

The Sakhi centre in the city is functioning on the top floor of the Nirbhaya building at Chempaka Nagar, Bakery Junction. Women can directly or through voluntary agencies or the police, seek assistance at this centre which will function round-the-clock.
