The Left Democratic Front (LDF) will launch from July 1 an agitation to ‘fight for what the capital district deserves’.
Addressing a press conference here on Thursday along with A. Sampath, MP, CPI (M) district secretary Kadakampally Surendran listed a slew of projects, from the Railway Medical College announced in the Railway Budget of 2009 to the proposed coaching terminal at Nemom announced in the 2011-2012 Railway Budget, which are yet to materialise.
Attempts were being made to shift the Nemom coaching terminal from the capital city, they said. They cited reports on a recent visit by top Southern Railway officials to the State capital in which it was reportedly mentioned that the site was not geographically suitable and hence the project be shifted to Kanyakumari.
Further, the Railway medical college announced in 2009 was held up reportedly due to land issues, when the Railways had about 77 acres lying idle at Kadakavoor, Mr. Surendran said.
The mechanised railway laundry service at Thiruvananthapuram; the development of the Kochuveli station as an Adarsh railway station; a drinking water bottling plant, also announced in 2010, and which is reportedly being shifted to Alappuzha; a budget hotel of the Railways; Rail Yatrik Sevak service; the inclusion of Thiruvananthapuram in the Golden Rail Corridor; the proposed high speed corridor from Thiruvananthapuram to Kasaragod; the delay in starting construction of the Pettah-Anayara Rail Overbridge; the Attingal bypass; and the silence of the State government on the Kottur-Ambasamudram road project were among the examples cited by Mr. Surendran.
