District leaders of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) have demanded a public apology from Bindu Krishna, United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate in the Attingal Lok Sabha segment, for launching an allegedly false campaign that the LDF workers had attacked her at Kottarathuruthu on Monday night.

Communist Party of India (Marxist) district unit secretary Kadakampally Surendran and Attingal LDF election committee chairman N. Rajan and secretary Anavoor Nagappan told presspersons here on Tuesday that Ms. Krishna was campaigning in the Azhoor-Chirayinkeezhu areas on Monday, when around 8 p.m., her pilot vehicle collided with a bike in which a Congress worker, Naseer, and his friend were travelling.

Since the pilot vehicle did not stop after the incident, Naseer followed the vehicle and the convoy of Ms. Krishna. This led to a scuffle.

When Ms. Krishna reached the spot in an open jeep, her driver suddenly applied the brakes on seeing the crowd, and she hit an iron bar of the jeep. When she was taken to the Chirayinkeezhu taluk hospital, she narrated the incident.

Subsequently, the local UDF leadership tried to portray it as an LDF attack on the candidate for political gains. The ‘false’ campaign stemmed out of a fear of poll reversals, they said.

The candidate should publicly apologise for misleading the voters, the LDF leaders said.
