Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has cautioned the media against blowing out of proportion the views of inconsequential communal and social outfits that resist major development projects to promote their vested interests.
At a meeting of editors of various media organisations here on Monday, Mr. Vijayan said that such resistance often leads to the elimination of such projects.
Considering the interest of the State, the media should desist from such moves. Publication of speculative reports on sensitive cases detailing the course of probe helps the accused escape from the clutches of law. He urged the editors to dissuade reporters from pursuing such cases.
Mr. Vijayan said that media reports had helped the police in certain cases too. Since identity parade is crucial in murder cases, publishing a photo of the accused in a case would derail the probe and also affect the case.
