Governor R.S. Gavai will inaugurate the bicentenary celebrations of the Thiruvananthapuram District Court and Bar Association here on August 3.
The celebrations would go on till December 31, general convener of the celebration committee S.P. Satheeshkumar said here on Friday. A ‘proclamation rally' comprising advocates, advocate clerks, court staff, persons in the literary and art field, and students would be organised at 3 p.m. on August 1. The rally would begin from East Fort and culminate at the district court premises. Minister for Devaswom V.S. Sivakumar would flag off the rally. An all-India moot court competition, enrolments, a medical camp, an adalat, and a ceremony to felicitate advocates who have completed 40 years in the profession would be part of the celebrations.
Chief Justice of Kerala High Court J. Chelameswar would deliver the keynote address at the inaugural ceremony. Head of the royal family of erstwhile Travancore Uthradom Tirunal Marthanda Varma would light the ceremonial lamp. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy would preside over. Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan would deliver a special message on the occasion.
