Eight students from the Herzog Christoph Gymnasium in Beilstein, Germany, are in the city to study Kerala’s culture, education, and socio-economic scenario.
The German students and their two teachers, who are at Trivandrum International School (Trins) as part of a student exchange programme, are working on projects that cover topics such as the role of women in Kerala society; Kalaripayattu, and the Technopark.
The team arrived on October 28 and will be in the capital until November 10.
On Wednesday, they called on Chief Minister Oommen Chandy at his official residence. Mr. Chandy answered their queries and used the opportunity to project the development initiatives taken under his leadership during the last two years.
The students visited Abhayagramam, Saigramam, CVN Kalari and the Technopark to conduct interviews and collect data for their projects. They also visited the Kuthiramaalika in the city and the Padmanabhapuram Palace in Kanyakumari district.
They joined volunteers of the Trins Social Service Programme in their regular teaching visits to government schools in impoverished neighbourhoods.
The team members interacted with the students and their teachers in the schools. The German students were invited to stay with the families of their Trins partners. Earlier, under the exchange programme, a group of nine students and two teachers from here had visited the gymnasium in Germany.
