The CPI(M) State secretariat has approved the candidature of youth leader Antony John in Kothamangalam and decided to support former Kerala Congress (Jacob) district leader Roy Varikkat as an independent candidate in Thodupuzha.

The CPI(M) secretariat, which met here on Monday, also decided to field mediaperson M.V. Nikesh Kumar as its official nominee in Azhikode in Kannur. Earlier, it had decided to field him as an LDF-backed independent candidate.

The secretariat decided to field Mr. John, former Ernakulam district president of the Students Federation of India (SFI), in Kothamangalam overlooking the request from Johny Nelloor, who had resigned as Kerala Congress (Jacob) chairman the other day, for support to contest as an independent candidate in the constituency.

With the naming of the candidates for Kothamangalam and Thodupuzha, the CPI(M) leadership has completed its candidate selection. The party had announced the names of 90 candidates the other day.
