A special two-day camp of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) to analyse the severe drubbing that the party received in the recent Assembly elections witnessed acrimonious scenes with the senior leaders, including A.K. Antony, coming in for some criticism.
KPCC president V.M. Sudheeran was the main target of speakers. V.D. Satheeshan led the group which was scathing in its criticism of the leadership. Mr. Sudheeran came in for criticism for his stance on the government’s liquor policy.
Mr. Satheeshan blamed the incumbent leadership for the drubbing that the party received in the election. He said time had come for a new generation to take over the leadership because the incumbents had lost credibility, he said.
KPCC vice president M.M. Hassan sought to put the blame for the defeat on Mr. Sudheeran. He said that Mr. Sudheeran’s principles did not reflect in his action. The liquor policy was a failure, he said and demanded Mr. Sudheeran’s resignation.
Several leaders criticised Congress Working Committee member A.K. Antony for his non-committal approach to the affairs of the party in the State. The party high command also came under the scanner with some of the members expressing doubts about its capability of organising an agitation.
