Chandy lauds assistance provided by armed forces

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has lauded the armed forces for the assistance given in times of emergencies and said that the State government would do its best to further the welfare of ex-servicemen.

He was speaking at a Civil Military Liaison Conference organised at the Secretariat here. Senior officers from the Army, Air Force, Navy, and Indian Coast Guard represented the defence forces while the State was represented by Jiji Thomson, Chief Secretary, and senior civil administrative officials.

Lieutenant General Jagbir Singh, General Officer Commanding, Dakshin Bharat Area, said the Army would always be available to the civil administration in times of emergencies. He also expressed satisfaction at the objectives met by the Civil Military Liaison Conference after a gap of over two years.

Land for camp

During the discussion conducted by Brigadier Samir Salunke, Station Commander, Pangode Military Station, the issues of land for the ECHS polyclinics and military camp near Sabarimala were deliberated upon. It was also decided to give the military area a facelift by creating a walking plaza and by lighting up the Edapazhanji-Pallimukku road besides ensuring better waste management by the city Corporation. Job reservation for ex-servicemen in State government services and reservation for admission under government quota in colleges for their wards were also discussed, according to an official release.
