Unexpected: The shattered rear windshield of a car parked near the porch in the Assembly complex on Friday.

The security personnel in the Legislative Assembly complex were thrown into a tizzy on Friday after the aerosol cans in a parked car near the porch burst, shattering the glass of the vehicle’s rear windshield.

The incident took place when the Budget presentation was going on and the Opposition legislators were agitating over the alleged leak of the Budget documents in the social media and television channels.

Hearing the sound, the security personnel and members of the bomb squad who were on the premises rushed to the spot to see the glass pieces strewn all around the place. As there was nobody around the parked cars belonging to the legislators and media personnel, a major casualty was averted. Security personnel said the glass of the rear windshield was damaged and had to be replaced. The car was parked in the sun and the incident could have been averted if the car windows were left open at least partially.

‘An eye-opener’

“This is an eye-opener for those who park their cars in the sun with aerosol cans knowingly or unknowingly,” the security personnel said.

The car belonged to Praveen Velappan, a cardiologist who was on medical duty to the Assembly complex. The car was later removed from the premises.
