The Centre for Development of Imaging Technology (C-DIT) will celebrate its silver jubilee, starting on Monday and to go on for a year, with the launch of a variety of projects, 25 of them to be precise.
Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, C-DIT director Babu Gopalakrishnan said the projects would include the complete digitization of old manuscripts and palm leaf documents for the State Archives Department; setting up of a professional skills academy for providing advanced IT training courses of international standards; a mass awareness and control programme on cyber security to check the rising threat of cybercrimes; expansion of IT education programmes through CyberSri for marginalised sections; entrepreneurship training and skill building for women-based micro enterprises; a Cyber Darshan programme to educate students on the do’s and don’ts of Internet and mobile phones; protection of rare books in rural libraries; establishment of e-governance call centre and kiosk in Kannur and Kayamkulam; the second phase of the Green Kerala Express programme; and more regional centres of C-DIT. Job fairs in Kannur and Alappuzha; establishing C-DIT study centres in Lakshadweep and the Gulf; and a mobile application to pass on the attendance details of their children to parents from the school too would be part of the silver jubilee programmes, Mr. Gopalakrishnan said.
The jubilee celebrations would be launched by C-DIT chairman and Chief Minister Oommen Chandy at 5 p.m. on December 30 on the Chitranjali Hills campus of C-DIT at Thiruvallam.
C-DIT vice-chairman and State I&PR Minister K.C. Joseph would preside over the function while Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development Shashi Tharoor would deliver the keynote address. An international science journal prepared by C-DIT would be released by Health Minister V.S. Sivakumar. V. Sivankutty, MLA, would release the silver jubilee logo.
The originC-DIT was set up in December 1988 as an offshoot of the Kerala State Film Development Corporation. It subsequently diversified into Information Technology applications including software development and provision of IT enabled services. C-DIT, which has been hosting and maintaining the State government web portal www.kerala.gov.in, apart from the websites of over 200 government and autonomous organisations, was also behind the round-the-clock live streaming from the Chief Minister’s office.
