Mayor K. Chandrika along with former Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac inspected the construction site next to the Erumakuzhy waste dump, where 20 aerobic bins will be installed.

The construction agency, COSTFORD, is implementing the project that is nearing completion. In time, the Corporation plans to set up 500 such bins across the city.

In addition to the bins, a Resource Recovery Centre where plastic waste will be collected and segregated will also come up here.

To belie the appearance of a waste treatment zone, the Corporation also plans to employ artists to decorate the building where the bins will be placed.

Fourteen more bins will be set up in parts of the city soon after the Erumakuzhy project is underway. The locations and project estimate had already been prepared, said Ms. Chandrika.

Standing Committee Chairpersons S. Pushpalatha and V.S. Padmakumar were also present.
