28 girls get scholarship for school education

As many as 28 girl students from various schools in the city were awarded scholarships by the Coin A Day Child Care Foundation working towards the empowerment of girl children. The selected students who got scholarships of Rs.5,000 and Rs.10,000 will continue to receive the scholarship amount every year till they finished their schooling.

State Bank of Travancore managing director P. Nandakumaran Nair inaugurated the function organised here on Monday and SunTec Business Solutions managing director K. Nandakumar distributed the scholarships. Architect G. Shankar presided.

The awardees, all of whom belong to single parent families, were selected on the basis of their academic performance and extracurricular activities among other things. They were selected on the basis of rigorous screening, according to managing trustee of the foundation T.P. Karunakaran.
