Seventeen confirmed cases of dengue fever were reported in the district on Wednesday. New fever cases in the outpatient clinics went up slightly on Wednesday, with various public sector hospitals reporting 1,576 patients.

The public as well as the doctors should inform the Health Department as soon as any infectious diseases are confirmed, District Medical Officer T. Peethambaran has said. The public should ensure that there are no vector breeding grounds inside or outside homes and desist from dumping waste on streets, he said.

Meanwhile, State Mission Director of National Rural Health Mission M. Beena has issued orders that all MBBS graduates currently doing Compulsory Rural Service (CRS) in various public sector institutions, but are on unauthorised leave of absence, report back for duty immediately.

At a time when the government hospitals are running short of doctors to treat the swelling numbers of fever patients, the CRS doctors cannot stay away. Action will be taken against those who do not report back to the respective DMOs before June 23, the Mission Director has said.
